"Glimmer of Hope" Inspired by The Mary Shelley Club:

Glimmer of Hope

Surrounded by darkness,

I don’t care enough to notice

when it gets blacker still.

But once a single, momentary

glimmer of hope

teases me from a distance,

there is nothing I want more.

The darkness was okay

when I knew I could never

return to the light of before.

But that single, momentary

glimmer of hope

invites the possibility of light

coming to me instead.

Where I once sat silent in the dark,

I now run laughing

for another flash of light.

Figures appear around me;

some try to turn me back

into my dark corner of the universe,

but others help me push them away

and run with me on my lightening journey.

My now will always carry

a shadow of my old darkness,

but I don’t have to stay in darkness

when there is

a glimmer of hope to look to.
