Dreaming on Ice
Those who dance on ice
are flawless.
Not a hair out of place,
light sparkling off their auras,
attention glued to their grace.
Soaring to their dreams
looks effortless.
They’re in time with the music,
they connect with the audience,
they land confidently.
Everything about being on ice
terrifies me.
Blades are poised
on every foot -- including my own --
and I can’t trust
that I won’t fall and get hurt.
My dreams of grace and elegance
are dashed by my fear.
But, if dreaming was easy,
landing wouldn't be as rewarding.
