I don’t need you to have superspeed;

I need a friend who will come over

when I don’t want to be alone.

I don’t need you to have superstrength; 

I need words of encouragement

to lift me up and push me to the next step.

I don’t need you to read my mind;

I need someone to listen

and help me see what I can’t.

I don’t need you to see what the future has in store for me;

I need a reminder that I still have a future,

that my current nightmare won’t last forever.

I don’t need you to control the weather;

I need a friend to stand with me

through the storm.

I don’t need you to have healing powers;

I need a smile and an occasional hug

to soothe my spirit.

I don’t need any sort of fantastical superhero;

I just need my best friend

whose love makes her a hero to me.
