"Who Am I?" Inspired by The Last Fallen Star:

Who Am I?

I’m a Navy brat

who’s had thirteen homes

and a world traveler

who’s been to twenty countries;

but I dream of becoming

a firmly-rooted member of a neighborhood.

I love getting up before the sun

to accomplish a million things before noon;

but I can’t quite give up

my habit of curling up with a book

to read in the dark hours past midnight

when the world holds its breath

to see how the story will end.

Invitations make me happy

and I want to party;

but I’m ready to leave after an hour

for one-on-one conversation with a friend.

As a reader and a writer,

no one is surprised that I liked English class;

but my favorite class was math

where numbers fill the page for one

not-so-simple answer.

Don’t ask me to choose

between living in a city, full of life,

or in the peaceful countryside

because I love both.

I’m a singer who can’t harmonize

and a musician who’s too scared to play,

but music is in my soul

and expresses what I can’t say --

whether 90s punk, country, metal, pop, love ballads, Christian rock, or nightcore.

Being self-conscious about all my random pieces

cloaked my life in fear of being called phony,

but I choose to be

every contradiction

that makes me me.
