Fan Without -Dom

I’m nerd enough

for normal kids to call me nerdy,

but I feel fake

around the real nerds.

I can tell you the difference

between anime and manga,

but I can’t remember

the last time I watched my favorites.

I started writing a fanfiction

for one of my favorite books

but had to leave blanks to fill in later

when I have time to reread the canon.

I get visual reference

for Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Pokemon,

but I’ll only say I’m in on your coolness

if we won’t have time to talk about details--

details you probably know

and I gave only a passing glance to.

I cosplayed as Kaylee from Firefly

once for Hallowwen,

but only my sister got it

because I didn’t want to invest too much

in the costume.

I can sing every word

in the Code Lyoko theme song

and fangirl over Beastboy from Teen Titans,

but the nerd in me

isn’t knowledgeable enough

to keep up with tumblr theories.

I’m eclectic by nature,

leaving me without a nerd community

because I'm only a finger into any one fandom.

I wish I was obsessed enough

to dive deep into another world

of people who love what I love,

but I’m just a fan,

not nerdy enough to be included.
