Night Thoughts
Good night, self,
just close your eyes
and sleep.
But don’t sleep too long!
You have to –
absolutely have to –
get up with your alarm.
You must be on time
tomorrow.
Which also means
you must sleep
now.
Today seemed to go well.
You didn’t say anything dumb,
so that’s a plus,
but you looked a idiotic when –
Stop!
Sleep now.
Does drinking warm milk
actually help you sleep?
Maybe you should try it.
But that would mean
getting out of bed,
turning on lights,
waiting for the microwave,
and would you have to
brush your teeth again?
Not worth it.
Plus, warm milk
sounds kind of gross.
Staying in bed
will help sleep come faster
than getting up.
So sleep.
Maybe if you just –
No!
No more ideas.
No more thinking.
Just sleep.
But –
No.
Just flip over your pillow already!
Fine.
Flipped.
Adjusted.
Now sleep.
Please sleep.
