When I Grow Up
When I grow up, I want to be like Mag:
daring to explore
new hobbies, new styles, new cultures
and be a support to others’
exploration of new thoughts and choices.
When I grow up, I want to be like Torri:
always busy, but never too busy
to make time for the one,
understanding the important things
and prioritizing accordingly.
When I grow up, I want to be like Katie:
passionate about something – anything – enough
to put in the work and develop the self-discipline
required to do something well,
something worthy of seven Olympic gold medals.
When I grow up, I want to be like Emily:
patient enough to be perceptive
and sensitive enough to commune
aura to aura and spirit to spirit
with people, God, and the universe.
When I grow up, I want to be like Rachael:
curious enough to learn about everything
and capable of applying those skills and that knowledge
in the service of others –
whether in action or through words.
When I grow up, I want to be like Kimmy:
a defender and advocate
of myself and others,
willing to take up arms for the right cause
and humble enough to concede when I’m wrong.
When I grow up, I want to be like Judy:
a loving and beloved grandmother
who remembers every birthday,
keeps the door open wide,
and always has oreos for lunch-dessert.
When I grow up, I want to be like Esther:
full of faith
that God can use me to accomplish His work
and willing to risk anything He asks
to act with Him according to His plan.
