Be Careful What You Wish For Part 2
Unsure if I had any strength
since fear usurped my being,
I rose alongside the creature.
It guided me to the kitchen
still littered with glass,
out the sliding door
onto soothing, cold grass,
up a wooden staircase
that hadn’t been there before.
Every step I took on wood
changed the world I knew.
A hill grew in my backyard
and a river widened between
the home I loved
and wherever I was being taken.
Within seven steps,
there was a forest separating me
from the life I once knew,
and my home
disappeared from view.
The wooden stairs descended
near a building made of glass and light.
The creature, still tugging my hand,
led me inside.
Warmth filled the space.
I could feel it start to warm me, too.
The rooms were taller
than the building had appeared,
and colors existed inside
that I had never seen before.
The cold hold on my hand
was remembered only when
we passed through a dining room
inhabited with more creatures.
I remembered the deceptive beauty
was far from home
and I didn’t know why I was there.
