The Power Dynamic
Who I come from
is not who I have to become.
Maybe I still look like his child,
but I have every avenue available
to choose not to act like his child.
His isn’t my only parent –
or even my only father figure.
His influence is minimal
because I choose to emulate others.
I’m taking back the power.
His power dissolved
when he lied about his doings
in an attempt to avoid the consequences.
Your reckoning is just beginning
with my refusal
to sweep these problems out the door
any time you offer an excuse.
I’m done listening.
I’m walking away.
And I’m not looking back.
You’ve lost the power you once had
over me.
