My Love Begins with You
I had a plan.
A plan that she would not follow.
She was not supposed to see me,
yet, after seeing my face,
she still promised to return.
I didn’t think she’d agree to marry me,
yet, she did,
sacrificing herself for others.
She stayed with me,
fulfilling her promise,
and didn’t flinch at my touch.
Her love grew to include me.
She was the beginning and the end of my love,
but I was not the beginning of hers.
In the end,
my plan failed
because I let her go.
She promised to keep the ring I gave her,
and I sent her away
with him who was
the beginning and the end of her love.
She promised she would come back
after my death
to return to me the ring she wore,
and thus I would be buried
with a piece of her I didn’t deserve
in life or death
but that she still gave out of love.
