"Unusual Hobbies" Inspired by The Real-Life Murder Clubs:

Unusual Hobbies

They look for dead people

and missing people

and the people who killed or took those people.

They imagine what skulls looked like with flesh

and then paint or sculpt them.

They pore over forgotten records,

they search photographs for clues,

they track down the manufacturers for materials

possibly involved,

all to hopefully

maybe

possibly

solve the question of who.

They go without sleep,

they forget to eat,

they choose not to go out with friends,

and do unpaid research work instead.

It’s unfathomable

that these unsung heroes

work tirelessly in the background without recognition

for people they will never know,

in places they might never go –

hours of work that might not even be useful.

Now excuse me while I make digital copies of physical records

so that people I will never know

in places I might never go

might be able to use the records to find their ancestors.
