The Beauty My Life Affords
Chandeliers and diamonds
are a beauty out of reach,
an excess I can’t justify,
an uncomfortable luxury to live with.
My life is punctuated by
moments of unexpected beauty:
the breath I try to catch
when my eyes get lost in the brilliant night sky,
laughter that cannot be withheld
as raindrops pummel me at motorcycle speeds
You are not an unblemished diamond on display;
you are the star that takes my breath away.
I cannot afford the beauty money can buy, but
I promise to appreciate the beauty you offer.
