Trust
Bombarded with decisions
every waking minute—
I just can’t take it anymore!
I could do this or that or anything
except for the shoulds and shouldn’ts
that dictate choices
without clarifying or guiding
or even really helping at all!
I need help
but there’s nowhere left to turn,
no voice that hasn’t already given its input
and added another should.
In desperation, I shout at the night sky.
Send me a shooting star with wish-granting powers,
send me in a direction with my own North Star,
or send an asteroid to put me out of my misery.
I run out of shouts
and sink to my knees.
I weep, still lost, and now voiceless.
But in the still quiet of a not-fully-dark sky,
a voice comes.
Starlight wraps around me,
and I return my face to them.
The voice comes again.
“Trust yourself,”
the stars whisper,
“and trust us.”
