Tell Me a True Story

When I was six,

You were a wimpy seven-year-old!

You were five.

my big sister had a mountainous bed,

It just seemed that way because you were a tiny baby.

I had to put it on stilts for storage purposes.

and I had a favorite book

Every book is your favorite.

The one about the hats?

about monkeys jumping on the bed.

I’m pretty sure it was about stupid kids.

No, Honey, we got that book later for your little sister.

I knew the moral of the story

Nah, you just liked the colors.

You’ve always been a smart girl.

was not to jump on the bed,

Obviously you didn’t listen.

You knew you weren’t supposed to jump on any furniture.

but, one day, I jumped on my sister’s bed anyway.

I can’t believe you did it without me.

Actually, it was my bed, Sweetheart.

I fell off and landed on my arm!

Served you right. You shouldn’t have used my bed.

The thump from upstairs scared me to death.

I spent weeks with that cast on my right arm,

You just wanted to get out of chores.

Honey, I’m pretty sure it was your left arm.

and, when I got sick of it, I slipped it right off.

Faker!

Thankfully, we were on the way to the hospital for the doctor to do just that.

I didn’t jump on the bed again, but it wasn’t the last time I broke that arm.
