There Will Be a Hero
A hero will rise
when demanded by fate.
But the hero
doesn’t have to be you.
You can stay home
or turn a blind eye,
you can hesitate
or make the choice to
specifically
say no.
You could be a hero—
here, there, now, later.
You could partake of the glory,
hear the songs of your exploits,
and die with great honor.
Or not.
But a hero will rise.
And, if it isn’t you,
the hero will have to be
somebody else
doomed to the fate
of glory
of honor
of death.
