Pain of Yesterday
I thought I had lost you
and needed someone to blame.
I turned my back on my faith
and rejected every sign of hope.
I didn’t know who I was
without you
without Him
without the future I thought was mine.
I thought I had lost my sister-in-law to death
and my brother to grief.
I thought my family was broken beyond repair
and that I would always be surrounded by sorrow.
I met you by chance
and you changed everything—
death
sorrow
my purpose in life.
One life has become
two on a journey,
three mourning souls have become
four fast friends,
and our joy now together
leaves behind the pain of yesterday.
