Both Fronts of War
We sent our hearts overseas
to fight a war we didn’t start
in hopes that they could end it.
News of the war
brought hope
and tragedy.
We feared for their lives,
worried they would disappear
and never return.
We didn’t worry about ourselves.
We stayed home,
doing our part
while apart from the battlefields.
But our loved ones at home
were as much at risk
as those who left.
Taken by bombs we couldn’t see
and disease we didn’t understand,
no one was safe.
And war left no family whole.
