Tempt Me To Orbit
I am the sun
with responsibilities to those in my influence.
To them,
I am life.
Without me,
there would be nothing else.
You forced yourself in
and then blamed my gravity for your orbit.
You pushed my planets aside,
as if your presence
decreased the value of their lives,
as if you could take
all my light for yourself.
I was flattered that you chose me,
and I was tempted to give it all to you—
to see if I could orbit,
if we could orbit each other.
But my duty is greater than your gravity,
and I am the sun
with responsibilities to my planets.
To them,
I am life.
To you,
I’m a passing light.
Without me,
there would be nothing else.
Without you,
my light is shared and enjoyed by all.
