The Reason for the Lie
All she remembers is the lie—
and it’s better that she does
for her
and also for us
but especially for her.
We speak as if the lie is truth,
we live as if the lie is truth—
would it be so bad
if all of us believed the lie?
If you and I
choose to believe the lie?
Does knowing the truth
make living the lie better
or worse
for her
and also for us.
The lie is definitely better—
that’s why we came up with it
for her.
But she keeps inching closer
to the truth.
She keeps finding reasons to resist
the lie.
And if our best lie
isn’t good enough to stay hidden,
is the lie really the best option
for her
or only for us?
