My Promises to God
Choosing this life purpose
required me to make promises to God,
and I did—
willingly,
even joyfully.
And then life got complicated.
My plans for my purpose
did not become reality.
Challenges I never imagined,
impossible choices,
confusion
all chipped away
at what I thought I was doing.
Keeping my promises to God
does not look
flawless.
Keeping my promises
is messy
and difficult.
I don't always keep them perfectly,
but I make my choices
in service to God,
even if my choices
don't follow a picture of perfection.
My promises to God
are still in tact
as I choose to act
in ways that keep my promises
with a new purpose in mind—
one I now see
God always knew was there.
