People, Roses, and Reserving Judgment
A rose by any other name
would smell just as sweet;
a child by any other heritage
would also deserve just treatment.
What truths lurk
beneath the surface of
your neighbors
your coworkers
your relations
the slow car in front of you
the person who seemed to scowl
the poorly worded text?
More likely than not,
they are doing their best.
People are just people—
they will always be
fallible humans,
just like imperfect you.
You, by anyone else’s point of view,
might not be the kind of person you intend to be,
and, yet, it is never too late
to smell just as sweet
when someone takes the time
to see and understand a rose.
